PHILOSOPHY
As I studied music further, I came to the realization that art can be learned and mastered. Art doesn’t just happen nor is it created by special people. Art is built on a solid foundation and anyone who is passionate, diligent, and love what they do can achieve artistic level. I would like to help students becoming an "artist", to do that, it needs a thorough preparation for the lessons on my part and continuing education so I can provide students detailed analysis of a piece.
In my lessons I teach…
- The proper form of playing the piano: Good posture with arms and wrists flexible and relaxed, which prevents tension that
often causes the harsh sound and can lead to hand injuries.
- The depression of the keys: use of the entire arm weight, avoiding shallow or brutal key depression in order to create
beautiful sound.
- Note reading, music theory, music history, which helps
deepen the understanding of a piece.
- Scales and arpeggios. Etudes (after about 6 month of
serious practice)
- Phrasing: Creates convincing expression.
- Deciphering and developing a mental image of a piece.
- Finding balanced practice: technique and expression go
hand in hand to play beautifully.
I believe these are the core elements required to build a solid foundation as a pianist and to help bring your level up to an artistic level with diligent practice.
Each lesson is tailored to the student’s learning experience and repertoire. Recognizing that each student is different, I adjust the fundamental elements of piano playing described above according to the age, maturity, musicianship level, and personality of the student.
